Bargaining update #24: Deadline day for negotiations with General Motors
Unifor General Motors members,
Today is deadline day for our negotiations with General Motors, If a tentative agreement is not reached by 11:59 p.m. then strike action will commence at Oshawa Assembly, St. Catharines Powertrain and the Woodstock Parts Distribution Centre.
For the past weeks your bargaining team has been working to secure a tentative agreement that follows the pattern set with Ford of Canada. While our local and subcommittee tables have made headway on objectives General Motors continues to resist key pattern conditions.
Items of contention include the transition of full-time TPT workers to permanent employment and the establishment of regular pay outs to our retirees over the life of the contract (Universal Health Care Allowance). We are determined to achieve the quarterly payment contained in the pattern as it sets the precedent for consistent and continuous payments to our retirees throughout the term of the contract.
In the remaining hours your bargaining committee members will continue to meet with the company to drive the pattern home to GM members.
Unifor members should continue to monitor autotalks.ca and watch your email inboxes for official updates from the union about the status of negotiations. We appreciate all of your messages of support and solidarity for our bargaining team.
In solidarity,
Lana Payne, Unifor National President
Jason Gale, Unifor GM Master Bargaining Chair
Trevor Longpre, Unifor GM Master Bargaining Vice-Chair
