Hello Members,
Unifor has received swift responses from the Federal and Ontario governments to our request for a four-party meeting with the provincial and federal governments and Stellantis on the future of the company’s operations.
Yesterday, Unifor sent a letter urging all parties to come together to discuss Stellantis’ manufacturing footprint in Canada. The union received a same day response from Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade, agreeing to meet.
Federal Minister of Industry Melanie Joly has confirmed the federal government’s participation, with the aim to set a date in the near future.
Unifor requested the all party meeting after months of discussions between Stellantis and the federal government failed to deliver an acceptable resolution for Brampton Assembly Plant, and following the company’s announcement of extended down weeks at Windsor Assembly and failure to provide assurances that the plant’s footprint and third shift are secure.
Unifor awaits a response from Stellantis on their willingness to meet with the union and governments to address concerns about the company’s long-term plans in Canada.
In solidarity,
Lana Payne, Unifor National President
James Stewart, Unifor Stellantis Master Bargaining Committee Chairperson
Vito Beato, Unifor Stellantis Master Bargaining Committee Vice-Chairperson
